Roswell Character Guide

Below is a complete list of ALL characters on the show,
ALL known info about them and their significance.

I have done tons of research for my writing, gathering as many details as I could to make things as accurate as possible.
I've decided to make a place to easily reference all of that info.

I'm just guessing on some of the spellings. If anyone has correct spellings, please let me know.
***If anyone has additional facts or characters, I'll be glad to add them and give you credit.***

With each character I've included a list of the episodes in which they appeared.
(A request by my friend River Dog.)
I've also referenced all facts with the episode when we learned them.
I abbreviated the episode names. For a list of the abbreviations, look at the bottom of the page.

I've also included some things that never made it to the show but were supposedly in earlier script versions or cut scenes - abbreviated as (CS) cut scenes

****It should be current up through the end of season 2.****
All info is from season 1 & 2, except a few tidbits
Season 3 is such a piece of crap, I'm not motivated to reference it, and I prefer to pretend it doesn't exist.

This page is graphics intensive. It may take a few minutes to load.

I saw these character descriptions on the Fanlore History Wiki, and thought they were too funny so I had to share.

Main characters:

- Max, former king on home planet, really a lot of eyeliner
(Did JB wear eyeliner? I just thought it was his naturally lush eyelashes, but that could just be me.)
- Isabel, his sister, really wears a lot of leather for a conservative family
- Michael, Max's best friend, really special hair
- Liz, really in love with Max
- Maria, really a lot of lipstick
- Alex, really just a nice guy
- Kyle, really reluctant to be dragged into the whole alien business
- Kyle's dad Sheriff Valenti, really curious about the aliens until he figured it out
- Tess, used to be Max's wife on home planet
(Ok, really? That is all they had to say about Tess? They didn't follow the pattern of the other descriptions and missed out on so many great opportunities! So let's try this again)
- Tess, used to be Max's wife on home planet,
. . . really creepy stalker
. . . really the fourth alien
. . . really wears a lot of tight and low cut clothes
. . . really an annoying hussy
. . . really uses her powers a lot to manipulate friends and family
. . . really no identity of her own
. . . really a murdering psycho
. . . really won't shut up about destiny

For the purposes of keeping everyone straight,
I've divided the characters into several categories
The Main Characters all have links to jump to directly to them, because there is so much info.
For the other categories, click on the heading name to jump to it.

There are characters that could be listed in several categories, like Liz is a Main Character, a West Roswell High student and a Crashdown Employee, but she is only listed under Main Character and the info about her education and employment can be found there.

Characters are listed in one category each, the 'top' category that they belong in. For complete info about the Crashdown, West Roswell High, the Roswell Sheriff Department, etc, click on the links to go to the individual pages.

Max and his duplicate Zan, were both cloned from an alien King named Zan, and given part of his 'essence' that supposedly would pass on his memories.

Complete Past Life info

Max was in an incubation pod from 1947 to 1989, when he broke out with his sister Isabel, and Michael. Even though Max and Isabel couldn't speak, they were able to communicate somehow. Max and Isabel walked from the pod chamber, through the desert to the highway, where they were found by Diane & Philip Evans.

When Max was found, he appeared to be six years old.

Max and Isabel were briefly in an orphanage (we don't know how long) until they were adopted by the Evans. Max said he always knew he was different, and tried to hide it. But he didn't know he had powers, and instinctively healed an injured bird.

His adoptive parents are very loving, supportive and understanding, and Max and his sister have a happy home. The Evans hope to help them overcome the trauma of their childhood and become happy adults. But Max took time to get comfortable with his new family, lying in bed at night crying and wanting to go home even though he didn't know where that was.

We don't exactly know what happened to Max after he was adopted, but when he is eight, he and Isabel are enrolled in public school with Liz Parker. (perhaps they were home schooled or perhaps they were in a different elementary school)

Max fell in love with Liz the first moment he saw her when he stepped off the school bus.

It is never mentioned, but generally assumed that Max went through the rest of elementary and Jr. High with Liz, but they never really knew each other that well.

He has been secretive since childhood, desperate to keep his alien side hidden. He only opens up to Isabel and Michael, and as far as we know, has no other friends. Max is the natural leader of the group, known for being intelligent, cautious and level-headed, but he is also deeply romantic. He is not prone to acting on impulse, which makes his instant decision to heal Liz even more telling of how much he cares for her.

Max's use of his powers seems to be natural and instinctive and he has control over them. Besides the power to heal, he later discovers that he possess the ability to create a shield that is capable of stopping bullets.

- He is a romantic at heart, and suggests pleasing a woman by doing small things, leaving notes in her locker, giving her a flower for no reason, giving small gifts like bubble bath. (C) - Max brought home a snake when he was young (perhaps that is what is in the terrarium in his room) (4S)

- Max remembers about his past life, how it smelled, how it felt to be there. He remembers Isabel, Michael and Tess, not what they look like but their energy and Tess is the clearest. He remembers 3 moons, burnt orange, no clouds, red 'water' that is the consistency of jello. He also remembers that he and Tess first kissed at a party. (HOM)

Birthdate - between Sept & Nov 1983
Liz's birthdate it is never mentioned, but through a series of deductions made while I was researching dates, I think this is probably correct. Take a deep breath, it is bumpy ride!

Future Max mentions that Liz is seventeen in EOTW, which is set in late November of 2000. From that we can figure that she was born in 1983.

So she turned 17 before the end of Nov 2000, and Liz is still seventeen in season 3 'Busted' when she is on trial which doesn't have an exact date, but takes place sometime after school started in Aug of 2001.

In New Mexico, anyone who is 5 years old after Aug 31st must wait an extra year to start school, and that seems to be what Liz had to do. She was born in 1983, and Alex, Maria and Kyle were all born in 1984 but they are in the same grade. This makes me think that Liz must have been born in Sept or later and waited a year to go to school.

So her birthday has to be between Sept and Nov 1983.

Answers to Topolsky's questions (M)
TOPOLSKY: Dream Job?
Liz: molecular biologist, dream, dream job, head of molecular biology at Harvard
TOPOLSKY: Where do you actually see yourself in 10 years
Liz: molecular biologist

(this didn't appear in the show but was in a supposedly earlier version of the script)
TOPOLSKY: Tell me which character in this drawing is the most like you and tell me what they're doing at the park. LIZ (pointing): Oh, I used to do that all the time.
TOPOLSKY: Build sandcastles?
LIZ (animated): I tried for weeks to build one of those turrets because you can't have a real castle without a turret. I even made my Dad take me to the library and get a book on sandcastles. All I had to do was follow the directions. It took a few tries, but once my friends did what I told them to do, voila! We had a turret.
(realizing) I mean, it's not like I forced them to or anything. It was more like a team and I was like the team leader.
TOPOLSKY: The one with the plan.
LIZ: Exactly. By the end of the summer I planned a whole city and the newspaper came and took a picture of it.

Liz describes herself as the smallest of small town girls, believing she is nothing special. She is intelligent, a straight-A student on track to being valedictorian, especially good in science, and plans a career in Biology. She works as a waitress in her family's restaurant, and dates a jock in her high school.

Liz comes from a happy home with parents who love and support her. She is a good girl and always does what her parents expect, but she is also a romantic and adventuresome. She has friends and joins in at school but isn't really in the popular crowd.

She is calm, a thinker, a planner, organized, focuses on what needs to be done and how to accomplish it. Every situation has a plan and there is no acting on impulse.

Her own rules are broken, however when she is shot and healed by Max, who begs her to keep quiet about what he did. Instead of telling everyone about Max, she keeps it to herself, starting a friendship and romance between them.

Michael and his duplicate Rath, were both cloned from an alien named Rath, and given part of his 'essence' that supposedly would pass on his memories.

Complete Past Life info

Michael was in an incubation pod from 1947 to 1989, when he broke out with Isabel, and Max. He somehow got away from the other two and watched them from afar before finally taking the chance to trust them. With Max and Isabel, he walked through the desert to the highway, where they saw headlights coming. But unlike them he was afraid of the lights and hid. The Evans took Max and Isabel away and Michael was left alone. He was found wandering in the desert about a week later and is eventually taken to an orphanage. It must have been a different one than Max and Isabel were taken to, or they were placed with the Evans very quickly, because Michael didn't see them again for three more years.

When Michael was found, he appeared to be six years old.

Unlike Max and Isabel, Michael wasn't placed with loving parents, but with a single man, Hank Whitmore who is a physically and mentally abusive drunk, and only keeps Michael for the assistance check.

Michael is known for being a hot head, acting impulsively often with disastrous outcomes. He is intelligent but doesn't care about school and flunks his classes. He is untrusting, sullen, rude, insensitive, lacks manners and only thinks of himself and sometimes Isabel and Max. Michael is a loner and feels left out of Max and Isabel's family, and the human race. He refuses to try and fit in with humans or be bound to anyone or anything because he has to be able to leave at any time. He desperately searches for any clue to his past and real home where he might find family and belonging.

He has trouble controlling his powers, probably because he also has trouble controlling his emotions. When his powers do work, he has a destructive blast.

Isabel and her duplicate Lonnie, were both cloned from an alien named Vilondra, and given part of her 'essence' that supposedly would pass on her memories.

Complete Past Life info

Isabel was in an incubation pod from 1947 to 1989, when she broke out with her brother Max, and Michael. Even though Max and Isabel couldn't speak, they were able to communicate somehow. Max and Isabel walked from the pod chamber, through the desert to the highway, where they were found by Diane & Philip Evans.

When Isabel was found, she appeared to be six years old.

Max and Isabel were briefly in an orphanage (we don't know how long) until they were adopted by the Evans. Her adoptive parents are very loving, supportive and understanding, and Isabel and her brother have a happy home. The Evans hope to help them overcome the trauma of their childhood and become happy adults. Unlike Max, Isabel felt at home from the first day with the Evans.

We don't exactly know what happened to Isabel after she was adopted, but when she is eight, she and Max are enrolled in public school with Liz Parker. (perhaps they were home schooled or perhaps they were in a different elementary school)

It is never mentioned, but generally assumed that Isabel went through the rest of elementary and Jr. High with Liz, but they never really knew each other that well.

While her brother Max hid himself by being secretive, Isabel went the other direction doing everything she could to fit in, becoming popular and elusive, hiding herself in an arrogant attitude and among vapid friends.

Isabel is known for being smart, beautiful, popular, an ice princess who dates a lot of guys but never gets serious. But inside she craves stability, family and someone to love. She volunteers in many causes and charities throughout the community and has a passion for creating the perfect Christmas which has earned her the nickname 'The Christmas Nazi'

Isabel refers to both Michael and Max as her brothers and often is put into the role of mediating their arguments, and thrown into the uncomfortable position of taking sides.

Isabel uses her powers the most, almost as a hobby, to spy on her fellow students and to accomplish small everyday tasks, like putting on lipstick. She also has the power to view peoples' dreams, and interact with them, but she says she can't change them.

Maria is from a broken family. Her parents married young and her father left when she was seven, and he hasn't been in her life since.

Her mother is a former hippie and single mother and works hard to provide for them. She loves Maria and makes the best home she can.

Maria seems to have inherited some of her mother's habits and lifestyle. She is into herbal remedies, aroma therapy and fortune tellers. She is an average student and not really into school. She was even in remedial science for three years.

She is known for being wacky, over reactive, energetic, jumps to wild conclusions, and has a tendency to freak out. She is a terrible liar and doesn't work well under pressure, but she also has surprising insight at times and can be a good friend.

She is a romantic, has craved love all her life, and envies what she sees as Liz and Max's 'perfect' relationship.

She has a talent for singing and even though she sings pop and classic songs, hopes to be like Alanis Morisette someday.

Alex is a loyal and dependable person who is intelligent, good in school and with electronics and computers. He is a romantic at heart, who sees beauty inside people as well as out.

He is sensitive and understanding, making him a great friend for women, but a bit of a punching bag for guys who see him as a geek, often getting him pounded at dodge ball.

Kyle lives with his single father. His mother left them when he was six.

Kyle craves his father's attention but often feels left out of his life because of his father's obsession with aliens.

He enjoys outdoor activities, fishing, hunting, camping and target shooting. Kyle has been an athlete all his life, playing little league and continuing into high school where he is on the football, basketball, baseball and wrestling teams, and aspires to be a pro athlete.

Although he is good in a variety of sports, he isn't such a good student, and was even in remedial science for several years.

He is popular in school, hanging out with teammates. He is a bit spoiled by his father who got him a red mustang convertible.

Kyle can be arrogant and even cruel, but is known for being funny and was a caring boyfriend to Liz. He gets drunk occasionally, but is responsible enough to tell his friends that beating up Max was wrong. He admits he isn't really good with the romantic stuff, but seems to have no problem getting dates.

When Liz starts hanging out with Max, Kyle is concerned for her safety and is jealous and stalks her a bit before realizing it is a lost cause and settles for friendship.

Kyle is attracted to Tess when she first comes to town and she uses him to lure Max to the library where she recovers the 'destiny book'.

After Kyle is shot and healed by Max, his father presumably tells him the truth about the aliens, although we never see that conversation. That summer when Kyle is a football camp he starts wondering about his place in the universe and gets into Buddhism.

When Tess moves in with the Valenti's, Kyle continues to flirt with her, and there certainly seems to be an attraction between them. They almost kiss in 'The End of the World'. It makes you wonder where exactly that relationship would have gone if Liz didn't interrupt them.

Kyle and Tess remain close and have a playful if not romantic relationship. They are always flirting and teasing each other, and they even go to the prom together, but Kyle tells Tess that he can't be with her because he considers her a sister. (anyone else smell mindwarp?)

Jim grew up in Roswell and is the son of the former Sheriff.

We don’t know much about his childhood, but he often felt abandoned by his father’s search for aliens. Despite this, he does practically the same thing to his son when he suspects that Max might be an alien.

Jim is relentless in his pursuit of the truth, needing proof one way or the other probably because his father’s obsession drove him insane, and he was forced to resign because of the scandal surrounding the death of a homeless man. Jim grew up with that over his head and needs to know what really happened.

He was married and has one child, his son Kyle, but his wife Michele left them when Kyle was six. Since then Jim and Kyle have lived alone. Most of the time they have a close relationship, enjoying doing ‘guy’ things together, watching sports, camping, fishing, etc.

Despite the scandal surrounding his father, Jim is respected as the Sheriff. He is known to be a good lawman, honest, loyal, intelligent, stubborn, determined, and frightening to the kids of Roswell.

Tess and her duplicate Ava, were both cloned from an alien named Ava, and given part of her 'essence' that supposedly would pass on her memories.

Complete Past Life info

Tess was in an incubation pod from 1947 to 1989, and when she broke out, the shapeshifter known as Ed Harding was waiting for her. Max, Michael and Isabel had already ‘hatched’ and left her in her pod.

It is never mentioned but we assume that when Tess came out of her pod, she appeared to be six years old like the others.

Little is known about Tess’ early life. She tells the others that she and Nasedo were hunted all of her life. How this is possible I’m not sure, unless Nasedo was completely incompetent and kept leading the Special Unit right to them.

Tess tells Isabel that they moved around a lot. It is unknown if that is part of her ‘cover’ story when she first comes to town or if it is true.

She seems to be quite a flirt, telling Liz that she dated a lot of guys but never been in love. She goes out with Kyle, flirting with him just to get Max’s attention. She claims that she and Max shared a great love in their other life. She tries to seduce Max several times by sending him images and dreams of them together, forcing him to kiss her, and throwing herself at him on a few occasions even though he says he isn’t interested. She doesn’t take no for an answer.

Tess feels that humans are inferior, probably because it was taught to her by her protector, and has learned not to value Earthly things because it isn’t her true home. She believes that all that matters is Max, Michael and Isabel and most importantly, going home.

She is known to be intelligent, seductive, determined, manipulative, and dismissive of most humans. But living without her family has made her lonely and craving others of her kind and her true home and ‘destiny’.

At times Tess seems to have no other identity than being Max's wife, and has no opinions of her own, looking to Max to tell her what to do. At other times, she is perfectly capable and even stands up to Max.

Tess has the advantage of living with Nasedo who taught her how to use her powers as well as some memory recovery techniques, and also told her about her other life.

She is good at using her powers, from years of training, and she is particularly good at mindwarping, manipulating peoples’ minds to make them see and experience things that aren’t happing.

Tess says that living with Nasedo was hard because he was cold, and she claims not to know that he killed people over the years. Although Tess claims to love Max she is willing enough to go along with Nasedo's supposed deal with Khivar to hand over Max and the others, which will probably lead to his death.

After she moves in with the Valenti's she becomes more human and has a good relationship with them.

Misc Info -
- Tess says she formerly lived in Jamaica. Isabel asked if there is any place she hasn't been and she says they've tried to avoid L.A. (C-CS)
- She hates people who use fake sugar, and puts sugar in yogurt and soda (C)
- Tess mentions to Liz that she's dated a lot of guys, but never been in love (TL&V)
- Nasedo mentions that Max, Michael, Isabel and Tess are known as the Royal Four (S&B)
- Courtney overhears Michael saying someone is after Tess, and she replies that 'trust her, no one is after Tess. With all that blonde hair and makeup, she is like Dolly Parton without the jugs.' (So is Courtney only referring to how Tess appears now? Or does Courtney know something about Tess from her other life that would make her say no one would want her? Possibly she is referring to the orig Zan and Ava being in a loveless marriage. Maybe that is a stretch, but I thought it was a curious comment.) (S)
- Whitaker mentions that she should have known Tess wasn't the hybrid she was looking for because Isabel is impressive. Meaning Tess is not. So it seems Whitaker wasn't impressed by Tess in her last life either. (S)
- Claims she can use her power to help strengthen Max's shield, but it doesn't seem to do anything (H)
- Max mentions that Tess was tortured by Whitaker when she kidnapped her (TS&P)
- Tess is seventeen in VLV (VLV)
- Tess says that most of her memories of her past life are blurry, but a few are clearer and more real than anything on Earth, like she remembers how Max used to reach out and touch her at night and how he would hold her (HOM)
- Max tells Isabel he feels weird about sex with Tess, and she asks if he wants comfort or sympathy. Michael implies that Tess gave Max alien herpes. That Tess just gets no respect. (BIY)

Owen is Native American, and grew up on the Mesiliko reservation.

In the episode ‘River Dog’, Owen is the person who recognized the symbol on the necklace that Isabel found at Atherthon’s house, and told her it was from the reservation. So logically, at some point, he must have been in Nasedo's cave. Whether he knew about Nasedo and his secret or not remains a mystery.

    ------

Appears in episodes -
Season 2 - AN, MTD, MITC, ARCC, DB, HTOTL, OTM

In the episode "Ask Not" when Brody first comes to town and takes over ownership of the UFO Center, Max, Michael and Isabel believe he is an evil alien, because he is in possession of an alien device, which activates when Michael is near.

Later in the episode it is revealed that he is not an alien, but is a human who was abducted by aliens.

This is how he explains it. -
"I was driving my car down the Massachusetts Turnpike, and before you know it, I'm in the room and they're doing, something to me, and then I'm back in my car and two days have gone by, and I'm in West Virginia. I would have written the entire thing off as an acid flashback. Then my doctor told me the cancer was gone. It was bone marrow. Terminal. A year to live and poof, it's gone."

Brody was first abducted in 1993.

He worked for an internet start-up company, and helped take it public in 1993. It 'changed the face of the internet', making him an instant millionaire. But when he started talking about being abducted by aliens, the company considered him a liability, and bought him out for $300 million.

Brody wants to make contact with the aliens again and started buying supposed alien artifacts. He purchased the chevron-shaped device, and didn't know what it was, or if it was authentic, but on May 14th, 2000 it lit up (because the Royal Four activated the orbs). Brody traced the signal's origin to Roswell.

So Brody moved to Roswell and bought the Roswell UFO museum from Milton.

It is never revealed why Brody was healed, but presumably it has something to do with the fact that the alien Larek uses him for communication with Earth. Larek stays on his own planet, and reaches out with his mind, taking control of Brody's mind and body. When it is over, Brody doesn't remember what happened.

In the episode 'A Roswell Christmas Carol,' it is revealed that Brody used to be married, and has a daughter named Sydney, who is also sick with bone marrow cancer.

Amy Deluca is best known for being Maria's mother.

Amy was married to Maria's father when she was 17, but it never mentions what his name is. We don't even know if Deluca was Amy's maiden or married name.

In an early version of a script for 'Monsters', Amy says her name is Miss Deluca and she is a single mother, so probably she went back to her maiden name and the Delucas are her family.

Amy is an ex-hippie who makes money in various ways, selling alien novelties and holistic remedies in her store, Deluca Alien Collectibles, selling homemade pies to the Crashdown, sponsoring the Alien Takedown at the Annual UFO Convention.

In the episode 'Heat Wave' it is revealed that she and Sheriff Valenti Jr. have a past. When Amy was 18 when Valenti arrested her for protesting demolition of a 200-year-old native American structure, because he thought she was cute. He apologizes, and they start dating.

Amy mentions that she did crazy, stupid things with Maria's father when she was Maria's age (17).

In the episode 'Off the Menu,' she is one of the people taken hostage by Brody, and refuses to cover up his actions, so Tess mindwarps her to forget.

    ------

Appears in episodes -
    Season 2 - TS&P, WAF, DB, HOM, CYN, ITL&ITB, OTM, D

Not a lot is known about Sean. He is first seen in the episode, 'To Serve & Protect,' where it is revealed that he was just released from juvie early, for good behavior.

Presumably he was in jail because of some incident at West Roswell High School, because a condition of his probation says that he must stay 1000 ft away from the school.

He likes Liz and tries several times to get her to forget about Max and go out with him. He seems to genuinely care about her and tries his best to cheer her up and help her get over Max. He is snarky, thinks he is charming, teases Alex (which apparently has been going on for years), so he must have lived in Roswell for a while or visited regularly. As part of his ‘criminal’ past he also knows how to break into places like the bowling alley and the school.

Misc Info -
- He is playing a video game with a 'gun' controller (not sure what system or game) at the Deluca house, in 'We are Family'
- In the episode 'Cry Your Name' he is in an Albuquerque court for a few days because of unspecified legal problems.
- Valenti helped Sean get community service, and not get his parole revoked, for breaking into the school with Liz (ITL&ITB)

    ------

Appears in episodes -
Season 1 - MA, M, RD, BB, TH, ID, SH, 4S
    Season 2 - S, W, ARCC, CYN, D

Diane and Philip Evans were the ones who found Max and Isabel walking down the road after they hatched from the pods. The exact events of that night are never revealed, but we do know that after the kids were found, they spent some amount of time in the orphanage, before the Evans adopted them.

Isabel knew she was home right away, but Max cried every night, wanting to go home. So Diane gave him the toy house and told him it was magic, and it could take him home.

Since Diane and Philip have no children of their own, some have speculated that perhaps they were unable to have them. But there is no proof of this.

Diane is a kind, caring mother, but she starts to get suspicious of Max after he puts out the fire in their kitchen. She questions him repeatedly and Valenti makes her even more suspicious by telling her that Max may have healed Liz at the Crashdown. Finally Max has to tell her to back off. She agrees, but tells him that nothing could make her stop loving him.

In the epi 'River Dog', Diane has a job, but it is never mentioned what it is. Some have speculated that perhaps she works in the law office with her husband.

Hansen (no first name given), is the sometimes clueless, sometimes over-zealous deputy in the Roswell Sheriff's office.

He is mostly responsible for having Agent Pierce's bones investigated because he was indiscrete and discussed the coroner's report about them in front of Congresswoman Whitaker. She insisted on a further investigation.

Hansen is appointed 'Acting Sheriff' when Valenti is fired for his actions in the Laurie Dupree case. Most likely it was in or around the episode 'We Are Family', but it isn't mentioned until 'Off the Menu'.

There is some controversy as to whether ‘Ed’ is Nasedo or not, so I will just refer to him as ‘Ed’

‘Ed’ is one of the shapeshifters who was captured by the government after the ’47 crash. He escaped almost immediately and spent the next forty years apparently roaming the US and killing of heads of the Special Unit. Ed kills by raising the temperature of internal organs to 180 degrees. (TWR)

The shapeshifter known as Nasedo spent some time living in a cave on the Mesaliko reservation – see Nasdeo for complete info.

For some unknown reason Ed killed Everett Hubble’s wife Shelia while he was posing as a vagrant.

Ed went to the pod chamber to get Max, Isabel, Michael and Tess when they ‘hatched’ but only Tess was still there. The others had already left and he spent the next ten years trying to find them.

Not much is known what happened to them afterward, but Tess tells Isabel that they’ve been running from the Special Unit all her life. It seems to me that Ed must be pretty incompetent if the Special Unit keeps finding them.

It is not exactly clear what led Ed back to Roswell to find the other three hybrids, perhaps it was the signal that Michael sent at the library in ‘Blind Date.’ At first Ed and Tess pretend to be humans, but Tess finally reveals that she is part of their group and her ‘father’ is their protector.

He is known to be disdainful of humans, and tells Tess not to get attached to Earthly things because it isn’t her true home. He is snarky, dismissive, arrogant, and has a strange sense of humor.

Ed is very skilled at using his powers, and at times seems to have great intelligence, but other times his decisions and plans seem very ill-conceived.

Nasedo/Tic Tac
More Pics & Info

Nasedo Name Meaning - visitor (the native americans called him this) (B)

    ------

Some people believe that Nasedo was Ed Harding, others think he was the shapeshifter known at TicTic, or even possibly another shapeshifter altogether. But all of that is discussed in the shapeshifters section - here.

This is all info that is known about the shapeshifter known as Nasedo that River Dog knew.

    ------

Killed     - James Atherton

    ------

River Dog describes an alien that he knew as a boy.

The man who lived in this cave when I was a boy was not like us. Some of the elders believed he was an evil spirit, so they decided to test him. He was invited into the sweat, just like I invited your friend. His reaction was quick and severe. Within a minute, his eyes were white, and he developed a fever.

I saved his life. After the sweat, he ran out into the desert. And we were told not to follow him. But I was a boy, and I didn't listen. I found him in this cave, dying. He had to trust me with his secret so that I could heal him.

I didn't know where he came from or why he was here. He stayed pretty much to himself. He befriended me and everyone here. He began to trust me.

I haven't seen him for 40 years. Besides me, the only man he trusted was Atherton. The man gave Atherton his necklace, the one you had.

Atherton was murdered. The man killed him. I was too far away to see what happened, but when I reached them, Atherton was dead. November 1959.

He was afraid they were going to kill him. He felt they were close to finding him, so he had to leave. I promised I would never share this information with anyone unless they passed the test.

River Dog also shows them drawings on a cave wall that Nasedo left. Max thinks it is a message for them. Later Michael figures out it is a map.

In a cut scene from 'Into the Woods' River Dog tells Michael that Nasedo was angry, alone, and always thinking something he never said.

    ------

Appears in episodes -
Season 1 - P, LN, HW, ITW, SH
    Season 2 - EOTW, CYN

Jeff is the son of Claudia Parker but his father is never named. It is generally believed that was an only child. His grandfather, Pete Parker owned Parker's Bar in Roswell and changed the name to the Crashdown Cafe after the '47 crash to take advantage of potential tourist activity.

Jeff is married to Nancy, and has one child, Liz. Jeff and Liz work in the Crashdown, and perhaps Nancy does too, but it is never really made clear.

Jeff is a fairly savvy business man, taking advantage of the local legends to fuel interest in his cafe, he has based his entire business on an alien theme.

He is an involved and loving father and a good son and husband. We don't really see him and wife Nancy together in the series that much, but it is assumed they are happy.

He enjoys spending time with Liz, who seems to be more of a daddy's girl, and they have gone on the father's camping weekend before.

    Season 2 - CYN

Nancy Parker is married to Jeff Parker and has one daughter, Liz.

It is never mentioned if Nancy has a job or where it is. Possibly she works at the Crashdown Cafe, although she is never seen working there on the show. Perhaps she does the bookwork and doesn't work with customers, or perhaps she is a stay-at-home mom.

We don't really see her and husband Jeff together in the series that much, but it is assumed they are happy.

Nancy and her daughter, Liz, seem to have a strained relationship, but it is never mentioned why. Perhaps Liz is just growing up too fast for her, and Nancy is trying to hold on to her child.

Daniel Pierce
aka. Deputy Dave Fisher
(page down to Dave Fisher to see info about the cover identity)

    ------

Employment - head of the Special Unit of the FBI

    ------

Romantic Relationships
- Congresswoman Vanessa Whitaker

    ------

Killed by - Michael (D)

    ------

Appears in episodes -
    Season 1 - C, MTTM, TWR, D

Pierce was recruited into the Special Unit of the FBI by the leader of the group at that time, Daniel Sommers. When Sommers was killed, the SU was taken over by John Stephens, but apparently Pierce wasn't impressed by Stephens' leadership because he staged a coup and put Stephens into custody and took over the unit.

He formed an alliance with the eager Congresswoman Vanessa Whitaker, who was also looking for proof of aliens. The two had a relationship of sorts. Vanessa says that politics was the reason Pierce slept with her in the first place, and we never really know if their relationship went beyond that.

Pierce is known to be fanatical about protecting Earth from aliens, resorting to espionage, kidnapping, imprisonment, torture and murder. He is cruel even psychotic, taking pleasure in hurting those he thinks are involved or anyone who gets in his way or could be useful to him.

We don't know if there is any reason for his fanaticism, other than the death of his mentor, Daniel Sommers.

After Michael kills him, Max, Michael and Sheriff Valenti burn Pierce's body and bury him in the desert, 30 miles NE of Roswell near the Old Clovis Hwy.

When Charles was 18 he found the 'largest silver deposit in the southwest.' Shortly after he started to be abducted.

Laurie says Charles was kind and lived in his head. He claimed to be taken by aliens but wouldn't talk about it. Instead he kept a journal about his abduction.

He feared aliens his entire life and thought they would return to take him again. The bomb shelter in his basement became his sanctuary where he would read for hours. Later in life, he wanted to know what happened and started to talk about it and it drove him crazy. In 1992 his children Bobby & Meredith used it to put him away in a mental institution. He died less than a year later at age 75.

He wears a ring on the same finger as Michael, and used to scratch at his eyebrow the same way.

Both Charles and Laurie have a bad chromosome, a recessive genetic defect.

In a cut scene in 'HTOHL', Michael discovers that Charles was 15 when he started working in the copper mines full time.

Maria's Father

Family - see family tree
    Daughter - Maria
    Wife? (divorced?) - Amy Deluca

    ------

Little is known about Maria's father, including his name. We are not even sure if he last name was Deluca. It is possible that Maria's mother, Amy took her maiden name back when he left.

Maybe his name is Deluca and Amy kept the name because they were never divorced, or to make it less awkward for Maria to keep the last name Deluca.

What we do know about him is that he left his family when Maria was seven years old.

In 'ARCC' a man named Curt Pressman is mentioned as being a former boyfriend of Amy Deluca. Sheriff Valenti says that he nearly ran over Curt and Amy on a dirtbike because they were laying together on a mesa. This was before she was 18 and she was married at 17, so possibly he is Maria's father (ARCC)

    Daughter-In-Law – Michele Valenti

    ------

Birthdate - 1936 (according to a newspaper article in TC, but this can't be right, that would make him 11 in 1947 when he was a deputy. Perhaps he was born in 1926 and the article got his age wrong.)

    ------

Romantic Relationship – possibly Rosemary (So47)

    ------

Employment – Sheriff of Roswell New Mexico (retired)

    ------

Address – Sunshine Retirement Center

    ------

James Valenti Sr. was present at the ’47 crash site, and what he saw made him a believer. He chased alien sightings the rest of his career, often leaving his wife and son alone, and earning him the nickname Sergeant Martian.

When Everett Hubble came to him in 1972 and told him the story of how his wife was killed by an alien, Valenti Sr. agreed to help Hubble hunt down the alien.

They believed the alien was a shapeshifter impersonating a drifter, and tracked him to a silo. Hubble shot and killed the man, who turned out to be a human, not an alien. (Hubble later told Valenti Jr. that Valenti Sr. couldn't shoot him and stop him from killing the supposed alien.) Valenti Sr. was arrested for the shooting and lost his badge because of it. He may have also had some type of nervous breakdown, because it doesn't seem that he ever told anyone that Hubble really did the shooting.

In the episode ‘The Convention’, Valenti Sr. tells his son, Sheriff Valenti that Hubble killed the drifter.

Agent Stevens comes to Roswell because Sheriff Valenti called him when he found Liz’s Crashdown uniform with the bullet hole in it, in the ‘Pilot’.

Stevens takes the dress to be analyzed, and tells Valenti there was nothing but ketchup on it, but in the episode ‘The Morning After’ he seizes all of the Sheriff’s files.

Stevens is in the Special Unit. He assigned Kathlene Topolsky to go undercover and make contact with ‘the subject’ – Max.

In the episode ‘River Dog’ Stephens also orders Topolsky to get the files that Max, Isabel, Maria, Michael & Liz recovered at James Atherton’s house.

Later in the episode ‘Crazy’, Topolsky tells Sheriff Valenti that Stevens tried to leave the Special Unit but Agent Pierce wouldn’t let him, and made an example of him, piece by Pierce.

In the SHP, we learn that Stephens was the head of the Special Unit. He replaced Agent Daniel Sommers in 1999 after Sommers was killed. In 2000, Pierce led a coup and killed Stephens when he tried to leave the unit.

James Atherton
More Pics & Info

Accomplishments – wrote several books, most notably ‘Among Us: A Critical Appraisal of the UFO Problem’ published in 1955

    ------

Death Date – November 1959
Killed by Nasedo

    ------

Address – Marathon, TX

    ------

According to Milton, James Atherton was the first to publish on the '47 crash. He authored several books, most notably 'Among Us' published in 1955.

Supposedly Atherton was on to something amazing, possibly direct contact. Legend has it that he was abducted by aliens because he disappeared in 1959

James Atherton somehow knew Nasedo and River Dog from the Mesiliko reservation. River Dog said he was a friend of Nasedo. Nasedo trusted him and gave him his necklace, but he must have done something to endanger or betray Nasedo, because River Dog saw Nasedo kill Atherton.

He was the corpse with the silver handprint on the chest, in the photo that Valenti shows to Liz.
The photo is marked Nov 16, 1959.

In the epi '4S' Max calls him William Atherton, and the Roswell Soundtrack also refers to him as William Atherton. William can't be his middle name, because he is listed as James P. Atherton. Maybe he is James P. William Atherton? lol

    ------

In 1970, Hubble and his wife, Shelia, were on their way to celebrate their first anniversary, when he stopped at Peppers Café to get some matches for the fireworks he had purchased. He left his wife in the car, and when he returned, she was lying on the ground dead, with a silver handprint on her chest.

Hubble saw a man running away from the scene, a drifter, and assumed he was the murderer.

Two years later in 1972, Hubble, convinced Sheriff Jim Valenti Sr. to help him hunt down the alien shape ship who had killed his wife. They believed the shapeshifter was impersonating a homeless man, and tracked him. Hubble shot and killed the man, who turned out to be just a man, not an alien. This was known as the Silo murder. It is never made clear if the victim was named Silo, or if the murder happened at a silo.

Afterward, Hubble kept investigating, and found several more deaths caused by silver handprints.

In the episode ‘The Convention’, Hubble shows up in Roswell, saying he has been tracking the events of the last few months, specifically mentioning the Crashdown shooting.

He talks to Larry, one of the tourists who was present the day Liz got shot, and determines that Max Evans is worth investigating. Hubble asks Sheriff Valenti if Max is involved somehow, and Valenti says he is. Hubble thinks Max was the alien who killed his wife, Shelia. Hubble gets Max to drive him out to the Café where his wife was killed, intending to kill him, but Sheriff Valenti shows up and shoots Hubble.

Everett stopped at Pepper’s Café to get some matches for the fireworks he had purchased earlier, and Shelia was killed while he was in the store. Hubble believes she was killed because the alien wanted their car.

Shelia was three months pregnant when she died.

The great mystery about Shelia Hubble is, why was she killed? Her husband speculated that she was killed so the shapeshifter could take her car, but she way lying in the parking lot, not in the car, and the car wasn't taken. Why go to the trouble to pull someone out or chase someone out of the car, kill them, and then not take it?

There has been speculation that she was killed because the shapeshifter needed her child for some reason, possibly to make another clone because one died, or he wanted to make a clone of himself, perhaps a daughter to replace the 'bride' with who became Tess. Others believe that DNA was taken from the baby to make a body for Liz, to place her alien essence inside. (they believe that Liz was from another planet as well)

"That summer, they found 5 cows, all of them mutilated with surgical precision on Hattie Weschler's farm. When she died 2 months later they did an autopsy, and sure enough, they found perfectly bored holes in her skull just where she claims the aliens made them when they abducted her that night. That skull is now buried deep somewhere within area 51."

Possessed Humans

When the people on the pod squad's home planet Antar, need to come to Earth, it is a really long journey. But they have devised another method besides traveling.

The Antarians have technology that allow them to 'use' a human body as their own. They 'possess' the human, projecting their mind and taking over the body.

Here is how Rath explains it to Max.

It's like a vessel, you know? A puppet. The alien emissary far away on another planet. Human knobhead here on this planet. Emissary reaches out with his mind,
takes control of the human. Human walks around like a puppet doing whatever the emissary wants him to do.

Like he's possessed. Doin' the Linda Blair, you know? Human dude never knows what happened to him. He thinks he's been frickin' abducted.

Characters are listed in alphabetical order, except when no last name is known. Then they are alphabetized by first name.

The Emissary is an alien, probably from one of the planets in the same system as Antar (which one is never mentioned). He is the one who met with Max in New York to verfy that Max was the king. The Emmissary put his hand to Max's head and used his powers to send a beam of light through Max's head, which revealed that Max had the royal seal in his brain, proving he is the real king of Antar.

    ------
Khivar is the alien from Antar who usurped the original Zan's throne.

We are not sure exactly when or how this happened. Most people assume there was some kind of coup or war where he took over the planet and the royal four were killed.

Khivar and the original Vilondra supposedly shared a great love, and some of Khivar's followers told Isabel that Vilondra betrayed her family and her planet for Khivar.

Some time after Khivar assumes power, the royal four are cloned and sent to Earth. Khivar sends his soldiers (the Skins) to Earth to bring Vilondra back and kill the others. It is mentioned by Congresswoman Whitaker in her journal that Nicholas was a general under Khivar.

Under Khivar's leadership, Antar has experienced 50 years of war with the other planets in their solar system.

Larek is an alien from a different planet in the same system as Antar. He attended the summit in NY as a representative from his planet (which is never named). He helps Max to defeat the ganderium, and tells Max a bit about his other life.

Larek says his and Zan's families were friends and the two of them practically grew up together. He attended Zan's father's funeral and Zan's wedding.

In 'Off the Menu' Brody accesses Larek's memories of Zan and Ava and tells Max. "Dimaras rock. That’s where you two first met. Dimaras rock, it it juts out over the water. The moon hanging over the horizon, and the color of the water…crimson red. I was there with you before you were king. We were swimming, and you looked up, and saw her on a rock. You said she was the most beautiful girl you’d ever seen. But of course you were too afraid to go talk to her. I offered to make the approach on your behalf, but you told me not to. Back then you were always so nervous and quiet, but lucky for you I was neither shy nor obedient. So I went and met her and introduced you two the same night at a party."

Larek also advised Zan when he was king. Larek thought Zan was making changes too quickly, even though he meant well, but Zan wouldn't listen.

Original Royal Four & Family

These are the original aliens that lived on and ruled Antar.
More info on Antar.

A lot of what we know is from questionable sources, enemy aliens and people with agendas of their own, so it is possible the info isn't accurate.

At some point during their rule the four aliens, Zan the King, Ava his wife, Isabel his sister, and Rath his second in command were called the Royal Four.

We are never told exactly when the original aliens were killed, but it is presumed that the deaths were caused around the time Khivar ursurped the throne.

After they died their supporters wanted to give them another chance to save the planet. Their 'essence' was brought to Earth, and combined with human DNA with the help of ganderium, to create the two sets of four hybrids to incubate in pods.

    Larek

Appears in episodes - none

Zan was the King of the Planet Antar

We really don't know much about him other than a few things we've learned from others. In the message from his mother, she calls him the 'beloved leader' of their people. This may be true, or it could just be his mother's POV.

Courtney told Michael in 'Harvest' that Antar was on the verge of a golden age, but Michael (or Rath) wasn't on the throne. Leading us to believe that since Zan was on the throne, that somehow he did something that messed up the golden age.

Also in 'Max in the City', Nicholas tells Max that he is the same as he was in his last life and died because he makes bad decisions. In the same episode, Larek tells Max that he meant well in his last life, but he was trying to make changes too quickly. Zan wouldn't listen.

It sounds like perhaps Zan was stubborn and idealistic, and trying to force changes that weren't popular. What those changes were we can only guess.

In 'Wipeout' Nicholas tells Max that in his last life he was very powerful, and Nicholas wouldn't have been a match for him. He also says that Zan determined the fate of armies with the flip of a coin.

Perhaps Nicholas was exaggerating, but maybe not. If it is true, it sounds like Zan either didn't care what happened to his men, or he didn't have the experience to rule.

Zan was married, but we don't know if it was a love match or a political marriage. Ava is simply refered to as his young bride.

Tess repeatedly tells Max that they shared a great love in their past life, but neither Max nor his dupe Zan are in love with their former wives, leading many people to believe that the original Zan wasn't in love with his Ava.

In 'Heart of Mine' Max remembers that he and Tess first kissed at a party. (perhaps it is the same party where they met). Tess leaned in, whispered in his ear and touched his cheek and they kissed.

Tess also says that she remembers Max in his other life, how he used to reach out at night and touch her, and how he would hold her. So if that is true, it seems that they were somewhat close at least for a while.

Zan's father died, and it is assumed that is how Zan became king, but we don't know for sure. Larek mentions in 'MITC' that he attended Zan's father's funeral and his wedding.

Ava's college from the Silver Handprint site, mentions that Zan's power was taken, presumably meaning there was a coup where Khivar took the throne. In the epi 'Harvest' Nicholas mentions that there was a revolution, and Khivar sits on Zan's tarnished throne. In 'MTD' Rath says that Khivar took Zan's throne.

Vilondra

Name - Vilondra

    ------

Family -
Father - no name given (deceased - MITC)
    Mother - no name given
    Brother - Zan

    ------

Romantic Relationships -
    Fiancee - Rath
    Lovers - Khivar, Nicholas?

    ------

Appears in episodes - none

Vilondra was Zan's sister, and a Princess of Antar.

In 'Surprise', Vanessa Whitaker tells Isabel that in her past life, she had a great love, Khivar, that she betrayed her family for. Whitaker even killed Nasedo because she thought Isabel might be in danger from him.

And in 'Wipeout' Nicholas tells Isabel that Khivar is waiting for her return.

In 'Meet the Dupes' Lonnie tells Max that Vilondra loved Khivar so much that she betrayed her family and caused everyones' deaths. In 'Max in the City' she tells Nicholas that she remembers being Vilondra and remembers her other life, so maybe it is the truth.

It is never confirmed by another source if Vilondra really did betray her family. The only people who mention the fact are evil aliens that have reasons to lie.

We do know that Vilondra was betrothed to Zan's Second in Command, Rath, but we don't know if it was a love match or a political match.

Nicholas also mentions that Vilondra was also involved with him.

If Khivar really loved Vilondra, it is likely that she died accidentally in his coup to take Zan's throne.

Misc Info -
- On the orb cards in the trading card set, it is mentioned that Vilondra was a brave warrior, but it is never said on the show.

Rath

Name - Rath

    ------

Romantic Relationships -
    Fiancee - Vilondra

    ------

Killed by - Nicholas (H)

    ------

Appears in episodes - none

Very little is known about Rath, other than he was Zan's Second in Command, and he was betrothed to Vilondra.

Courtney does mention to Michael in the episode 'Harvest' that she follows Michael in a political sense. So he must have had some political power or perhaps been of royal blood.

Courtney explains that Antar was on the verge of a golden age, but it didn't happen because Rath wasn't on the throne. She also mentions that Rath wouldn't betray Zan.

Ava's college from the Silver Handprint site, mentions that Rath was a soldier. Also in the 'destiny book translation' seen in the episode 'Baby It's You', he is referred to as Zan's counselor.

Courtney mentions that in his past life everyone Michael loved died, so he may have no family left on Antar (H)

Ava

Name - Ava

    ------

Family -
    Husband - Zan

    ------

Appears in episodes - none

Ava was married to Zan, making her the Queen of Antar, and is referred to as his young bride.

Back then you were always so nervous and quiet, but lucky for you I was neither shy nor obedient. So I went and met her and introduced you two the same night at a party."

In 'Heart of Mine' Max remembers that he and Tess first kissed at a party. (perhaps it is the same party where they met). Tess leaned in, whispered in his ear and touched his cheek and they kissed.

Tess repeatedly tells Max that they shared a great love in their past life, but neither Max nor his dupe Zan are in love with their former wives, leading many people to believe that the original Zan wasn't in love with his Ava. So it is possible that their relationship was a political match.

Tess also says that she remembers Max in his other life, how he used to reach out at night and touch her, and how he would hold her. So if that is true, it seems that they were somewhat close at least for a while.

But it seems unlikely that Tess loved Max at all if she was willing to betray him to Khivar. So was this 'great love' she remembered just a lie?

Max & Isabel’s real father from their home planet, Antar. We never know his name or see his true appearance. We know practically nothing about him.

In the episode ‘Harvest’ Courtney tells Michael that their world was on the verge of a golden age. I think we can contribute that to Max's father before he died, so he was probably a good king.

Larek mentions in the episode 'Max in the City' that his family and Zan's were friends, so probably Zan's father was a good friend of Larek's father.

Larek also says that he attended the funeral, so we know that the old king is deceased. This most likely took place before Zan became king.

Max & Isabel’s real mother from their home planet, Antar. We never know her name or see her true appearance. We know practically nothing about her.

In the episode ‘Destiny’ Max, Michael, Isabel, Tess, & Liz hear a message from her that was stored in the orbs.

She says she loves them very much and can't wait to hold them again, so she seems like she was a good mother.

We have no way of knowing when the message in the orb was recorded. Perhaps it was put in before the ship left Antar, so it is hard to say if she is still alive. But obviously she expected to live long enough to see her childrens' return.
