Roswell Romantic Shipper List

In this list I've included only romantic ship names.

If I know who named the ship, I included the info next to the ship in ( ). The girls and I
over at Roswell Heaven named some of the unnamed ships, so I abbreviated myself to RO.

I'll give the origins of the ship names that I know, or have figured out.
In a few lucky cases I have the explanations directly from the people who named them.
If any are incorrect, please let me know.

Romantic Ships

Roswell Romantic Ships

Romantic shippers, usually just called shippers, are people who are fans of romantic relationships between Roswell characters.

Roswell romantic ships are divided into two main groups, Conventional and Unconvential,
and then Unconventional is divided into Unconventional (male/female pairing), Slash (same sex pairings), and Threesomes (or more), each of which is explained below in more detail.

***Note that some ships have more than one name***
Some of the ship names aren't used any more, but I left them in for archival purposes.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Conventional Couples - Common abbreviation CC

The only couples considered conventional are Max/Liz, Michael/Maria, Alex/Isabel, Kyle/Tess, and Jim/Amy. Some people consider Isabel/Jessie to be conventional, and some do not.

Even though some of the characters had romantic ties or relationships with others on the show, all other ships are considered unconventional.

Candy - Dreamer - Lamptrimmer - Stargazer

These pages contain more in-depth info on the 4 main conventional couples.
I've just started building these pages, so there is more info coming

You will notice that there is a lot more info on the Dreamer's page, that is because I am a Dreamer and saved, researched and created mostly Dreamer stuff. And before you ask, 'No, I don't plan on giving the other ships the same in-depth treatment.' But, if anyone has additional stuff for the other ships, please send it in and I will be glad to post it.

This is the list of the conventional couple ship names -

*** At one time, there were other names for the Dreamer and Candy ships, but for the life of me I can't remember what they were. If anyone knows, please email. ***

Barely Legal - Isabel/Jesse
(Even though Isabel & Jesse were married on the show, some purists do not consider them CC)
This name has fallen out of use. Now everyone uses Whirlwind Romantics
origin - in the epi 'Busted', Isabel tells Jesse they have to keep their relationship secret because he is 26 and she is barely legal.

~~~~~
Bookworms - Kyle/Tess
It comes from their library "study date" in "Four Square."
~~~~~

Candy - Michael/Maria
(aka Candygirl or Candyboy, collectively the Candyclan, some small sites called them Candiers)
origin - comes from the way fans abbreviated Michael & Maria, to M&M, and then people started calling them candy.

~~~~~
Chemists - Max/Liz
This was used on a couple of the smaller sites before Dreamer. Now everyone uses Dreamer.
Chemists was then used for Jason/Shiri ship, when there were rumors they were dating.
And then it was used to describe the onscreen chemistry between them.
origin - from the epi 'Monsters' where Liz and Max are in Chemistry class together.
~~~~~

Cherishers - Max/Liz

~~~~~
Dreamer - Max/Liz
(aka Dreamgirl or Dreamguy)
origin - in the epi 'Blind Date', Max called Liz his dream girl
**note - there is a bit of controversy on exactly where the name came from. For the whole story click here.
Dreamers on the boards also divided themselves into several groups, most of which don't exist anymore.
  • Amour Dreamers - are the Dreamers that believe in a passionate love between Max and Liz. As in, not necessarily chaste, but not quite as close to cementing as the Blush Dreamers.
  • Blush Dreamers - want passionate kissing and almost cementing but no cementing for awhile yet!!
  • Brat Dreamers - Thats what members of some other shipper groups call dreamers who they feel do nothing but complain, over anything mostly spoilers. But which has been taken as badge of honer by Dreamers.
  • Cementing Dreamers aka Sexual Dreamer - fans who like Liz/Max in adult fics
  • Cherishing Dreamers aka Romantic Dreamer aka Snow Dreamers - fans who love the relationship and romance between Max/Liz and stay away from the sexual side
  • Die Hard Dreamers - fans who believe in Max and Liz' love no matter what happens between them
  • Displaced Dreamers - They're "Dreamers in the classic sense" but they explore other options when Max starts pissing them off. They bow to a Royal Court that consists of Liz as King, Kyle as Queen, and S2 Max as a royal toilet scrubber among other things...
  • Guttercouchers - Not only do they want cement between Max and Liz, but they turn every comment into a cement-related idea. In other words, their minds are ALWAYS in the gutter.
  • Kamakaze Dreamer - Is a fully spoiled Dreamer, "There's rock bottom fifty feet of crap, then us "
  • Maso (masochistic?) Dreamer - Is a fully spoiled Dreamer, But see Sublime Muffin for this one
  • Pollyanna Dreamer - Is a fully spoiled Dreamer, Optimistic only seeing the good in spoilers.
  • Reject Dreamers - the slightly more laid-back Dreamers of the Jason Behr boards
  • Romantic Dreamer aka Cherishing Dreamers aka Snow Dreamers - fans who love the relationship and romance between Max/Liz and stay away from the sexual side
  • Scarlett O'Hara Dreamers - Fully Spoiled Dreamers whose attitude towards bad spoilers is a wait and see approach, "For tomorrow is another day..."
    Note: These Dreamers due to the horror the spoilers were in fact true died early.
  • Sexual Dreamer aka Cementing Dreamers - fans who like Liz/Max in adult fics
  • Snow Dreamers aka Romantic Dreamer aka Cherishing Dreamers - fans who love the relationship and romance between Max/Liz and stay away from the sexual side
  • Soprano Dreamer - Is a fully spoiled Dreamer, (1) Has no problem with retribution, (2) Will dispence punishment when the time comes, (3) ATTITUDE "MOTTO: Don't Worry About It, You Got TO Do What You Got To Do..."
  • Spoiled Dreamers - Deamers who couldnt wait for Max and Liz to get back together so they read all of the spoilers
  • Sybil Dreamer - Is a fully spoiled Dreamer, Who bounces from Pollyanna to Weeza sometimes in 2 sec's flat :) From the Movie The Sybil.
  • TNT Dreamers - stands for Top-Notch Tolerance Dreamers, they make a point of not bashing Tess or other characters
  • Weeza Dreamer - Is a fully spoiled Dreamer, Pessimistic only seeing the worst in spoilers. From the Movie Steel Magnolia's
~~~~~

Whirlwind Romantics - Isabel/Jesse
(Even though Isabel & Jesse were married on the show, some purists don't consider them CC)
origin - they started a relationship and got married really quickly.

Near Canon or Near Conventional

Some people consider ships that almost happened on the show to be near canon or near conventional. For example - there was definitely some attraction between Kyle/Tess even though they never really got together.

The near canon couples are usually considered to be Brody/Maria, Kyle/Tess, Michael/Courtney, and some include Liz/Nasedo when he was Max. You could probably make arguments for others like Sheriff Valenti/Kathleen Topolsky, Isabel/Grant, Liz/Sean, and Isabel/Kyle, in season 3

This really isn't used any more, but I thought it was interesting to include.

Unconventional Couples - Common abbreviation UC

All couples that are not Max/Liz, Michael/Maria, Isabel/Alex, Kyle/Tess, and Amy/Jim are considered unconventional.

A few UC ships actually existed on the show, like Max/Tess, Liz/Kyle, and Michael/Courtney, but they are still considered unconventional probably because they were unpopular with the vast majority of the fans, and a lot of the fans don't consider them to be 'real' ships.

Especially some Dreamers and Candies believe that Max and Michael were 'seduced' against their wills into being with Tess and Courtney by some alien mojo or alien instinct, or whatever, and if they had been in their right minds, they never would have 'strayed'.

I'm not sure why the ship of Rath/Lonnie is considered unconventional. They were together on the show. Perhaps it made the Candies nervous that Michael in any form could be attracted to Isabel (Lonnie). Zan/Ava is probably considered unconventional because Ava said Zan never really loved her, and a great majority of Dreamers and Awakened Dreamers, like to believe that he was looking for Liz, just like Max was.

So whatever the reason, all non-conventional couples are considered unconventional.

Unconventional ships are traditionally divided into three groups:

UC Couples
This page contains more in-depth info on a few of the unconventional couples.

Here are a few general UC terms -

Mirror - implies a Dupe ship, when used in front of any ship name
*** A really old term, not used anymore. Dupe ships are now given their own names. ***
For example Mirror Dreamer was Zan/Liz, Mirror Stargazer was Lonnie/Alex, etc. But you could see how it could start getting confusing like with Mirror Cliffhanger that could be Rath/Isabel or Michael/Lonnie or Rath/Lonnie. I am guessing that is probably why the ships started getting their own names.

Alien Blast J - Valenti/alien(s) - someone who ships Jim with pretty much any alien, in male/female, male slash, threesomes or more.
An old name rarely used. Now there are individual ship names for all the ships

Alien Blast K - Kyle/alien(s) - someone who ships Kyle with pretty much any alien, in male/female, male slash, threesomes or more.
An old name rarely used. Now there are individual ship names for all the ships

Liz Whore - someone who ships Liz with pretty much anyone except Max, in male/female, female slash, threesomes or more.

Supporters of Alien Orgy - someone who ships any and all pairings.

Alien Magnets - Brody/Laurie (RO)

origin - from the episode '285 South' Topolsky is undercover FBI and kicks the Sheriff, knocking him out

Awakened Destiny - Serena/Zan (RO)
origin - Zan ships often use the word Awakened, and Serena ships often use the word Destiny, so combine them to get Awakened Destiny

Awakened Dreamer - Liz/Zan
origin - Awakened dreamers comes mostly from late season 2 and season 3 - a lot of dreamers HATED Max for how he treated Liz, and then for sleeping with Tess, and then he didn't get any better in season 3. The Max we had fallen in love with was gone, and many dreamers said he didn't deserve Liz.
So a lot of dreamers started to want to give Liz a man who did deserve her - and the natural choice was Zan. He was so mysterious that you could make him anything you wanted.
In ITL&ITB Max said to Tess he felt like he was dreaming and was ready to wake up. Many dreamers saw that as a personal message from TPTB, they were killing the dream.
Well the dreamers thought they deserved to wake up from the nightmare Max had become too - hence Awakened Dreamers - awakened from the past, awakened from what the TPTB had ruined, and awakened to other possibilities for Liz.
They used to be dreamers - but now the dream was gone and they were awake.

Awakened Outsider - Max/Lonnie
origin - not really sure on this one. Max/Isabel is outsider, but not sure how the awakened fits in, perhaps because Lonnie is a dupe, and awakened was used for Zan/Liz? I would think Awakened Outsider would be Zan/Isabel or Zan/Isabel/Max - all of which, can I say ick!

Backstabbers - Lonnie/Zan
origin - Lonnie turned on her brother, backstabbing him

Band Camper - Billy/Maria
origin - season 3, 'Behind the Music' I think, Billy & Maria are both musicians and went to band camp together

origin - in the epi 'Summer of '47' Hal refers to a girl as a corn-fed lady

Daddy's girl - Nasedo/Tess
origin - Nasedo or Ed Harding has been pretending to be Tess' father

Deviant - Isabel/Sean
origin - Isabel is popular and Sean is a misfit so if she dated him she would be a deviant?

Deviant Destiny - Rath/Isabel (RO)
origin - Isabel/Michael are destined to be together, according to the destiny book, so Isabel/Rath is deviant destiny

Diddler - Pierce/Whitaker
origin - not exactly sure, but probably because when Nasedo was diddling Whitaker, he was pretending to be Pierce

Diddler - Nasedo/Whitaker
origin - in the epi 'Skin & Bones' Nasedo says he has been diddling Whitaker all summer

Diddler - Piersedo/Whitaker
origin - in the epi 'Skin & Bones' Nasedo says he has been diddling Whitaker all summer

Different Destiny - Max/Serena
origin - Serena ships are often use the word destiny in them, and Max's destiny definitely wasn't Serena, so different destiny?

Disillusioned Nuts - Jennifer/Larry
origin - I was going over the Shipper List picking out the names that I was currently following. I came to Milton/Hubble and kinda chuckled when I thought of those two in a story together. I saw that their ship was called UFO Nuts. Then I just kind of started thinking about the Convention episode, and then Larry came to my mind. He frustrated the living daylights out of me with his questions at the Crashdown when Liz got shot, I just wanted him to put a sock in it. Then he made it worse when he got up and "Boom" started pointing the finger at Max at the Convention. I thought how could that little goof have a girlfriend like Jennifer. Then I remembered her talking with the girls at the crashdown about how men sucked etc. From there I thought that I didn't recall a ship with Larry in it. So, since he had the clandestine meeting with Hubble to give him information on Max and the shooting, I paired him up with Hubble and the word Confirmation just popped in to my head. Confirmation Nuts. Then when I added Jennifer to the mix, I thought of the word disillusioned because they had planned to get married and all the alien stuff knocked her out of it. So I put Disillusioned Confirmation Nuts. That is how my brain works in a nutshell. No pun intended. :D Disillusioned Nuts would be perfect for Jennifer and Larry.

origin - people thought Future Max/Liz should be differentiated from Max/Liz. Max/Liz are Dreamers, and the future is for future Max

Antar Girls - Ava/Lonnie
origin - they are from Antar

B Team - Alex/Kyle
origin - in the epi 'Blood Brothers' Kyle mentions to Alex that he is the B Team

Balcony Siren - Liz/Lonnie
origin - not sure, but a Lonnie fan is a Juliet, and the famous scene in Romeo & Juliet was the balcony scene? Isabel has the word siren in some of her ships, so maybe that expands to Lonnie, but where does Liz fit in? Liz has a balcony too, possibly

Balcony Sisters - Liz/Lonnie
origin - not sure, but when Lonnie is pretending to be Isabel, she tells Philip Evans that she is playing Juliet in a school play, and the famous scene in Romeo & Juliet was the balcony scene? Liz has a balcony too, possibly. not sure how sisters fits in, other than they are both women

Catfighter - Liz/Tess
origin - Ava fans are alleycats, and somehow that expands to Tess. Some of Tess ships have the word cat. And Tess and Liz are 'fighting' over Max.

Cat's Eye - Ava/Tess
origin - the cat I get. Ava fans are alleycats, and somehow that expands to Tess. Some of Tess ships have the word cat. but the word eye, not a clue.

Confirmation Nuts - Hubble/Larry
origin - I was going over the Shipper List picking out the names that I was currently following.

Conventioneers - Max/Milton
origin - they worked the convention together in the epi 'UFO Convention'

CopyCats - Liz/Ava
origin - an Ava fan is an alleycat, and I believe the word copy comes from the Liz/Tess ship or Catfighters, so Liz/Ava is CopyCats

Crispy M&M - Max & Rath (Winter Ashby)
origin - I choose this name because Peanut M&M is Max and MICHEAL. So, I thought with Michael's dupe it should be something like this (if you look, this is the way MOST of the unconventional ships are named, for the ships that make them up). So I looked up kinds of M&M's. Milk Chocolate, Peanut, Crispy, Peanut Butter, Caramel, Almond. And out of all of these, I thought crispy fit the pairing the most.

Explosive Souls - Michael/Zan

Hal's Angels - Dixie/Rosemary (RO)
origin - These are the characters Tess and Isabel played in Summer of '47, Dixie and Rosemary. Courtney & Maria ship is Mikey's Angels, and Michael played Hal in that episode, so I called this ship Hal's angels.

Hussylover - Tess/Courtney
origin - they are both considered hussys

Ice Cube - Courtney/Isabel

Icestorm - Lonnie/Tess
origin - Isabel is the Ice Princess or Ice Queen, maybe Lonnie is derived from that, but not sure how Tess fits in

origin - Tess saves Maria's life in the epi 'Wipeout'

Lipstick Abduction - Isabel/Serena (femmenerd)
origin - named after her series of stories about Isabel/Serena. I am totally guessing about where the actual words came from, but possibly 'lipstick' is from the term 'lipstick lesbians', who are lesbians that are more 'girlie'. They wear makeup and dress more 'feminine'. And 'abduction' probably is from the term 'alien abduction'.

Threesomes (or more)

A lot of threesome ships (but not all) derive their ship names from combining the ship names for the individual ships in the group, such as Polar Cliffs (Liz/Isabel/Michael) is a combination of Polar (Liz/Michael) & Cliffhangers (Michael/Isabel)

Some people ship threesomes as slash, and some don't. I've always thought there should be a separate ship name for slash and non-slash threesomes that include the same people. For example - Double Dipper would be the name for the Zan/Liz/Max ship where there was NO action between the guys, and you'd have a completely different name for the Zan/Liz/Max ship where the guys get it on, like Double Dreamy Gratification, or something.

It would certainly be easier to quickly see if slash was involved if there were separate ship names.

Well, I suppose if you write a story with a pairing and want a new name to show slash or no slash, then you can just make up a name. ;)

Anyway, this is the list of threesome and more ship names -

BBQ M&Ms - Maria/Michael/Kyle
origin - not exactly sure how this whole candy theme got started, but I suspect it is an offshoot from Maria/Michael being referred to as M&M, and somehow that has carried on to all kinds of candy names. This one maybe makes a little more sense than some of the others. You have Michael/Maria for M&M, and cowboy Kyle for the BBQ - lol

origin - I was going over the Shipper List picking out the names that I was currently following. So Max/Liz is dreamer, Zan/Liz is Awakened dreamer, and if you carry that out, if Liz is with Max and Zan, she is dreaming but awake. Crossover Ships

A crossover (or xover) is a story that combines one or more Roswell characters with one or more characters from another tv show, movie or book. Although there haven't been a ton of crossover fics written, there have been some xover ships named.

Of course you can have conventional ships in a crossover. There are several fics with M/L as a couple in Roswell/Buffy xovers, for example.

But all ships that have one or more Roswell characters romantically involved with a character from a crossover are considered unconventional. Like if Tess and Spike got together it would be considered unconventional. These UC crossover ships are usually listed separately from the all-Roswell unconventional ships to cut down on confusion.

This is the list of hetero and slash xover ship names -

origin - unsure

Loners - Michael/Alec (Ex Astris Ad Astra)
origin - both are loners

Raised by Evil - Tess/Alec (Ex Astris Ad Astra)
origin - both were raised by evil

Wisecrackers - Kyle/Alec (Ex Astris Ad Astra)
origin - both are wisecrackers

X-tremers - Liz/Alec
origin - Alec is genetically engineered, an X-5 series, perhaps that is what the X is referencing
Here is an explanation from 2x4 aka Robyn
As for the X-tremer 'ship, from what I understand, it was named so because it sounded like 'ex-dreamer.' A lot of the earlier fics began the Alec/Liz relationship after a particularly horrible end to a Max/Liz relationship.

Smallville xover ships

Usurpers - Tess/Lex (Antar Grrl?)
origin - Tess tried to overthrow Max, but not sure how Lex fits into it

Supernatural xover ships

Drifter - Dean/Liz (2x4's hubby)
origin - My husband accidentally named the Drifter 'ship. I was joking around online with a friend and we were trying to determine a name for the Dean/Liz 'ship after I'd written a few stories. In the background, the hubby says just call it 'Drifter.' At the time, the terminology had more to do with Liz drifting away from Max once they were on the road and finding Dean. Too, a lot of the early stuff found every character to be a drifter, Roswell gang included.

Intellectuals - Sam/Liz (Kiara Klay)
origin - both Sam and Liz are intellectuals

Lawbreakers - Tess/Dean (Antar Grrl?)
origin - I guess because they are both law breakers
